In an industry powered by soul-less commercial fodder, Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz are changing the way people think of Canadian music. This trio features a trash-blues sound, like a rusty hotrod barreling through the crossroads of roots & punk. Their new album Bangtown is a pulp fiction view of our modern world with lyrics that take root in dark places.

It's all 100% sonically-powered by the Gretsch-endorsed Big John Bates, the murderous Brandy Battery on upright & the huge grooves of JT Brander with the integration of Little Miss Risk's amazing Voodoo Dollz Burlesque as part of their touring group. And playing over 100 dates a year in some 15 countries, they keep putting the cult in culture.

Generals Gathered will ride again in the late spring, so keep abusing your doom until we get back.  Also, The Beatles may reform.  Also, Chuck Finale Live may do shows too.  Too bad about Vagain Wizard.  That's probably dead unless Jay goes solo.  That would be even worse.

Review from gritty Milwaulkee Express -[land o beer] "If the Stray Cats had been rabid and hopped up on catnip, they might have sounded like Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dollz. Big John Bates lays down a meaner, punkier version of the Cats’ trademark jump blues—he even looks a little bit like a rougher, hard-living version of Brian Setzer—while his traveling burlesque girls, The Voodoo Dollz, act out his raunchy lyrics, play with fire (and each other) and generally flaunt their cleavage. This is rockabilly at its raciest." This is going to be a show you will talk about for a while. Amazing music and hot incendiary cat fights..."The Voodoo Dollz are the premiere touring burlesque troupe on the world stage today and have been a big part of the resurgence since 2001 ... these fireballs are becoming the best-known secret from Canada!"...Europe loves them...you will love them....

On Big John Bates latest CD-Heavy-weight magazines across Europe are giving the record 5/5 stars. Dynamite Magazine says Bangtown is for fans of "blues-trash & rockn'roll - putting Big John Bates in the company of the Reverend Beatman, Social Distortion, the Cramps & Brian Setzer!"

Tonight expect...Theatrical, dirty and stripped-down rockin'. Welcome to the dark velvet lounge of Big John Bates. We're dealing with bad juju here; '59 hot rods, bad girls and debauchery-Uptown Magazine...So, come out and see  a band with 400 shows under their belt and toured Europe 5 times-you are going to experience extreme gleeness.

Amazingly hot! That was a performance worth seeing/hearing, fire tassle twirling and cat fights, Big John Bates grinding out incredible sounds and to all the girls in the audience that were dressed ala 50's style...many kodak moments were to be had. A packed BPP and super attentive crowd, wish they would have played even longer. That was just so so good!
